New multi-storey car park contributes to a car-free city centre
Completion of the building on the right-hand side of the Europabrücke bridge is planned for 2025. As part of Constance's mobility concept, it will help to make the city centre largely car-free. The multi-storey car park will be built on an area of around 77 x 33 metres and will offer space for 745 cars and 150 bicycles on 17 mezzanines.
Atlas piles are low-noise, vibration-free and resource-saving
Constance is built on highly water-bearing, highly settlement-sensitive lake clay. Due to the low load-bearing capacity of this type of soil, the new car park was founded on 210 Atlas System full displacement bored piles with a diameter of 46 centimetres and a length of around 22 metres. Obstacles in the ground presented the team with additional challenges. In order to precisely match the loads to the demanding terrain, static test loads were carried out in advance. The results served as the basis for calculating the pile statics.
‘The Atlas piles were used for several reasons,’ says site manager Nico Klauss, ’Firstly, they were installed with low noise levels and at a minimum distance from the vibration-sensitive neighbouring buildings. Secondly, the full displacement meant that there were no transport or disposal costs for the drilled material.’
